When you say the name "Panama City," most people think of our gorgeous white sand beaches, Spring Break crowds, and summer sun.  But did you know that we also have a thriving community of artists who love to share their crafts and teach their skills to the public?  There are classes and exhibits nearly every day of the week here locally, so take a little time and explore what Panama City has to offer!

Start out on Tuesdays with the Beach Arts Group, and join them for their Plein Air painting event.  Artists of all different skill levels are invited to come together and enjoy the beautiful summer sunshine, creating fantastic works of art based on our local landscapes.  This group meets in a different location each week, so check out their Facebook page to find out this week's spot, pack up a canvas and some supplies, and enjoy!

If you're an early riser, make sure to head on by the Be Legendary morning music and art event held Wednesday mornings in downtown St. Andrews.  You'll be provided a special treat of coffee, tea, and pastry, and enjoy being serenaded by a wonderful local musician!  What a great way to start a day!  Later on in the evening, let loose and attend That Swing Thing, a dance class offered at the A&M Theater downtown on Harrison Ave.  You don't need a partner to attend, so put on your best dancing shoes and get ready to swing!

Slow it down a little on Thursday, and take a trip over to Seahaven Beach Market.  This is a wonderfully unique mix of farmers market and art exhibit that is open and free to the whole community.  Stroll down Front Beach Road and take your pick of some of the freshest, locally grown produce available; and support your favorite local artists by picking up some gorgeous, hand crafted pieces to beautify your home year round.  And don't forget to stop in Pier Park every Thursday night for the concerts in the park!  Bring your beach chairs or blankets and enjoy a different local musician each week.  This event is always well-attended, so you're almost sure to see some old friends, and make some new ones!

Friday night is always a great time for food, music, and friends.  Pineapple Willy's is hosting a Prince tribute band each Friday and Saturday night!  This show is great for the whole family, so go and treat yourself to Willy's world famous ribs, and sing along with some of the best songs by one of the best artists of our time.

Saturday morning, get up and head straight over to the Global Arts Society for something completely unique, and join the African Caribbean Drum and Dance Group for an amazing time! Learn and explore different percussion instruments, dance, choreography, and vocals.  Don't be shy, this event is open to everyone of all skill levels, so even if you think you have no rhythm, or have never played an instrument in your life, give it a try and you might just surprise yourself!   For a completely different experience, go to the Boardwalk Beach Resort later in the evening and enjoy the Nashville Songwriters Florida Sunshine Tour!  This free event offers the opportunity to listen to up and coming songwriters and artist showcase their talents. Go find yourself a new favorite this weekend!

Finally, we'll slow it down and enjoy the Americana Cafe Sundays.  Held in historic Lynn Haven, this recurring weekly event allows many of our local musicians to take the stage, showcasing their lyrical, acoustic sound.  There's even an open mic before the show, so bring your guitar and your best singing voice and take the stage yourself!

With the growing number of art galleries, exhibitions, concerts, plays, and shows in our area, Panama City is rapidly becoming a wonderful center for the arts.  Make sure to take the time to attend these events often, and support our amazing local artists.  And of course, there are always a multitude of classes to take for every skill level, so get out there and explore your own hidden talents!
