This awareness education event will provide a snapshot of current veteran resources that may facilitate the veteran or family member in receiving benefits, initiating claims, along with receiving assistance with medical and mental health services, and housing. We invite all non-profits, veteran and social service organizations, and volunteers who serve veterans to participate in this training to enhance your service to veterans. This educational session will be taught by:  Darrell Whited, retired Army Sgt. Major, former VA Mental Health staff member. Lunch will be provided during this all-day session. Admission is limited; we will be managing a wait list.  SPONSORS :  Okaloosa Mental Health Association  Brain Injury Connection Sharing Hands Network     NOTE: We are also hosting a companion training event HELPING VETERANS : EFFECTIVE LISTENING AND INFORMATION GATHERING This course exposes front line staff to strategies to engage and gather information from their clientele.  As a result, staff can use these skills to establish rapport, determine eligibility, and refer veterans to appropriate resources. The training will certify you as a Group Facilitator for small or large group discussions. This course will be conducted in two consecutive sessions on February 17 and February 18 (Wednesday and Thursday) from 5pm-9pm each evening.
